I Will Become More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine

2019, Single-channel video, 15.31 mins (clip from film)

A film exploring the haunting legacy of the M11 link road that cuts through Leytonstone, East London. In 1994 the final evictions took place in Claremont Road ending a significant road protest campaign. Following the demolition of over 300 houses, the A12 (M11 link) road opened to traffic in 1999.

Shreds of personal and collective histories interweave to form an alternative narrative. Fragments of radio transmissions, archive footage and photos from those involved, fold, re-shape and merge with new audio and video recordings.

Taking its name from the protestors’ slogan on the final house to be demolished, 'I Will Become More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine' summons spectral voices and sounds from the landscape in an attempt to confront the motorway.
